ব্রিটবাংলা ডেস্ক : ধর্মীয় বিধি অনুযায়ী মরদেহ দাফনের বিষয়টি গুরুত্ব দিতে ইনার নর্থ লন্ডন কনসোর্টিয়ামের করোনার মেরি হ্যাসলের প্রতি আহ্বান জানিয়েছেন ইস্ট লন্ডন মসজিদের প্রধান ঈমাম শায়খ আব্দুল কাইয়ুম।
ইস্ট লন্ডনের বাঙালী অধ্যুষিত টাওয়ার হ্যামলেটসের হোয়াইটচ্যাপল রোডে অবস্থিত ইস্ট লন্ডন মসজিদকে ইউকে এবং ইউরোপের মধ্যে সবচাইতে বৃহৎ মসজিদ হিসেবে বিবেচনা করা হয়।

করোনার মেরি হ্যাসল ইস্ট লন্ডনের টাওয়ার হ্যামলেটস, কেমডেন, হেকনি এবং ইজলিংটন বারার করোনার হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করছেন। এই চার বারায় প্রায় ৭শ হাজারের বেশি মুসলিম এবং জুইশ কমিউনিটির মানুষ বসবাস করেন। ধর্মীয় রীতি অনুযায়ী কেউ মারা যাবার পর যতোদ্রুত সম্ভব মরদেহ দাফন করতে চান মুসলিম এবং জুইশ কমিউনিটির মানুষ। করোনার সার্টিফিকেট দেবার ক্ষেত্রে ধর্ম এবং কালচারকে গুরুত্ব দিতে সরকারের পক্ষ থেকেও গাইড লাইন দেওয়া আছে। কিন্তু করোনার মেরি হ্যাসল ধর্মীয় বা সরকারী গাইড লাইল উপেক্ষা করে First come First অর্থাৎ আগে আসলে আগে পাবেন ভিত্তিতে মরদেহের জন্যে করোনার সার্টিফিকেট ইস্যু করতে চান। করোনার মেরি হ্যাসলের বিতর্কিত এই সিদ্ধান্ত পরিবর্তন করতে তার কাছে এক চিঠিতে আহ্বান জানিয়েছেন ইস্ট লন্ডন মসজিদের প্রধান ঈমাম শায়খ আব্দুল কাইয়ুম। চিঠিতে তিনি ধর্মীয় বিধান অনুযায়ী মরদেহ দাফনের বিষয়টি অগ্রাধিকার দেওয়ার আহ্বান জানান।
করোনার মেরি হ্যাসলের বিতর্কিত সিদ্ধান্তের বিরুদ্ধে জুইশ কমিউনিটির পক্ষ থেকে জুডিশিয়াল রিভিউ হচ্ছে। আগামি ২৭ এবং ২৮শে মার্চ হাইকোর্টে এই রিভিউর শুনানির তারিখ ধার্য্য করা হয়েছে। এর আগেও দুবার মেরি হ্যাসলের সিদ্ধান্তের বিরুদ্ধে জুডিশিয়াল রিভিউ হয়েছে। দুবারই জয়ী হয়েছে জুইশ এবং মুসলিম কমিউনিটির দুই পরিবার।
উল্লেখ্য ২০১৩ সালে মেরি হ্যাসল ইনার নর্থ লন্ডন কনসোর্টিয়ামের করোনার হিসেবে যোগ দেন।
Chief imam of East London Mosque asks coroner Mary Hassell to reconsider religious burials decision
The chief imam of a Whitechapel mosque has written to a coroner asking her to reconsider her controversial decision not to prioritise religious burials.
Abdul Qayum from the East London Mosque is urging Mary Hassell to reverse her policy which has been heavily criticised by members of the Muslim and Jewish community.
Ms Hassell, whose remit covers Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Islington and Camden, said that no death will be prioritised on religious grounds.
Both religions call for bodies to be buried as quickly as possible after death, often the same day, and an invasive autopsy should be avoided.
In his letter Mr Qayum said: “In my experience, coroner services have been able to respect religious needs without disadvantaging
anyone else.
“Indeed, the Ministry of Justice in its guidance makes clear that your office must take account of family and community preferences, including religious requirements.
“I hope you will reconsider the position you have taken, and ensure that families seeking an expedited burial will be accommodated whenever possible as a matter of course.”
An Orthodox Jewish organisation has been granted the right to launch a judicial review over Ms Hassell’s decision.
The High Court hearing will take place on March 27 and 28.
