আরো তুষার নিয়ে ইউকের দিকে ধেয়ে আসছে ঝড় এমা : Storm Emma: UK snow could reach 50cm as conditions worsen

ব্রিটবাংলা ডেস্ক : তুষার চাদরে ডাকা ইউকের জন্যে বাড়তি দুর্যোগ নিয়ে আসছে ঝড় এমা। এমার প্রভাবে ইউকের কোন কোন এলাকায় ৫০ সেন্টিমিটার পর্যন্ত তুষারপাত হতে পারে বলে সতর্ক করেছে আবহাওয়া অফিস।

মেট অফিস জানিয়েছে, ইউকের বিভিন্ন এলাকায় প্রায় ১১টি প্রচন্ড তুষারপাত, বরফ এবং ঝড়োহাওয়ার আগাম সতর্কবার্তা জারি রয়েছে। সোমবার পর্যন্ত কিছু কিছু এলাকায় এই সতর্কবার্তা বহাল থাকবে।

এদিকে শুক্রবার সকাল পর্যন্ত দক্ষিন-পশ্চিম ইংল্যান্ড এবং দক্ষিন ওয়েলসে অস্বাভাবিক তুষারপাতের জন্যে রেড ওয়ার্নিং জারি করেছে আবহাওয়া অফিস। অন্যদিকে তৃতীয় দিনের মতো বৃহস্পতবিারও ইউকের বিভিন্ন রোড, রেলওয়ে এবং এয়ারপোর্ট তুষারপাতের ফলে বিপর্যস্ত ছিল। ইংল্যান্ড, ওয়েলস এবং স্কটল্যান্ডে বৃহস্পতিবারও বন্ধ ছিল হাজার হাজার শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠান।

 

বিশেষ কোন কারণ ছাড়া গাড়ি নিয়ে রাস্তায় বের না হতে বারবার অনুরোধ জানিয়ে যাচ্ছে পুলিশ। ডরসেট এলাকার প্যাডলটাউনের কাছে এ৩৫ রোডে তুষার জামে আটকে আছে প্রায় ১শ গাড়ি। অন্যদিকে এম২৭ এবং এ৩১ রোডে বরফে আটকে আছেন অসংখ্য মানুষ। ওদিকে নর্দাম্পরিয়ায় বৃদ্ধদের বহনকারী একটি বাস প্রায় ৮ ঘন্টার বেশি সময় আটকে ছিল।

ওদিকে তুষারপাতের ফলে সৃস্ট গাড়ি দুর্ঘটনায় কর্নওয়েলে ৭ বছরের এক মেয়ে নিহত হয়েছে বৃহস্পতিবার। লিডসে ৭৫ বছর বয়সী এক মহিলা এবং বার্কশায়ারে ৪৬ বছর বয়সী এক পুরুষ নিহত হন। অন্যদিকে ডারহ্যামে তুষারে আটকে গাড়ির মধ্যেই এক কন্যা সন্তানের জন্ম দিয়েছেন এক মা।

Parts of the UK are braced for up to 50cm of snow, as Storm Emma brings worsening conditions.

A highly unusual red weather warning for snow is in force for south-west England and south Wales until the early hours of Friday.
UK roads, railways and airports have been severely hit by snow for a third day, with thousands of schools shut.

Drivers across the country are stranded as they try to get home while police forces urge people not to travel.

In Dorset, around 100 vehicles are currently stuck on the A35 near Puddletown while motorists on the M27 and A31 have been stranded in the snow.

One coach of elderly passengers in Northumbria has been stuck for eight hours, police said.

The Met Office currently has 11 live severe weather warnings for snow, ice and wind in place for the UK. The final warning is in place until 23:55 GMT on Monday.
On Thursday, a seven-year-old girl died after a car crashed into a house in Looe, Cornwall.
In Leeds, a 75-year-old woman was found dead in a snowy street. She was found partially hidden beneath a car in the Farsley area of the city.
Meanwhile, in the south, a 46-year-old man died in a road crash after a collision with a lorry in icy conditions on the A34 near Tot Hill services in Berkshire.

Earlier, a woman gave birth to a baby girl in a car on the roadside in snowy County Durham.
National Grid says there may not be enough gas to meet demand in the UK.
If suppliers cannot provide more gas, industry, large businesses and gas-fired power stations will be asked to use less, but domestic consumers would only be affected as a last resort.
Children in south Wales, southern England and Scotland were off on a snow day on Thursday, as thousands of schools closed.

A red alert for snow in Scotland – the country’s first- has been lifted but an amber alert remains in place.
