ব্রিটবাংলা রিপোর্ট : ইংল্যান্ডের বাকিংহামশায়ারে এম ওয়ান মটরওয়েতে ভয়াবহ এক গাড়ি দুর্ঘটনায় ৮ জনের মৃত্যু হয়েছে বলে নিশ্চিত করেছে পুলিশ। গুরুতর আহত আরো ৪জনকে হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করা হয়েছে। এ ঘটনার সঙ্গে সংশ্লিষ্ট সন্দেহে দু’জন লরি ড্রাইভারকে গ্রেফতার করেছে পুলিশ।
পুলিশ জানিয়েছে, শুক্রবার শেষরাত আনুমানিক ৩টা ১৫ মিনিটের দিকে এম ওয়ানের সাউথ বাউন্ডে নিউপোর্ট প্যাগনেলের কাছে দুটি লড়ি এবং একটি মিনিবাসের মধ্যে সংঘর্ষে এই দুর্ঘটনা ঘটে।
হতাহতরা সবাই মিনিবাসের যাত্রী। মিনিবাসটি নর্থাম্পটন এলাকা থেকে মটরওয়েতে উঠেছে বলে ধারণা করছে থেমস ভেলি পুলিশ। জংশন ১৫ এবং ১৪ এর ভেতরে দু’টি গাড়িই সমান ডাইরেকশনে যাচ্ছিল বলেও পুলিশ জানিয়েছে। এই দুর্ঘটনার পর দ্রুত গতিতে বিপজ্জনকভাব গাড়ি চালানোর অভিযোগে দু’জনকে গ্রেফতার করা হলেও দুর্ঘটনায় মৃতের সংখ্যা নিশ্চিত করেনি পুলিশ।
দুর্ঘটনার পর সাউথবাউন্ড বন্ধ রয়েছে। দুর পাল্লার যাত্রীদের হাতে সময় নিয়ে অথবা এম ওয়ানের জংশন ১৫ ও ১৪ এড়িয়ে যেতে আহ্বান করেছে নর্থাম্পটনশায়ার পুলিশ।
Eight dead in M1 minibus and lorry crash
Eight people have died and four others have been taken to hospital after a motorway crash involving a minibus and two lorries, police say.
It happened on the southbound M1 at Newport Pagnell in Buckinghamshire just before 03:15 BST.
Thames Valley Police said the minibus was believed to have travelled from the Nottingham area.
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and are in police custody.
The southbound carriageway is due to remain closed “for a significant amount of time” while emergency services work at the scene.
The vehicles were all travelling in the same direction between junctions 15 and 14, police said.
Highways England said traffic trapped between junctions 15 and 14 was being released past the scene, and diversion routes were in place from junction 15, with traffic following the A508, A5 and A509 to rejoin the M1 at junction 14.
Northamptonshire Police have asked people travelling to the British Moto GP at Silverstone to allow more time for their journey.
