ব্রিটবাংলা রিপোর্ট : টাওয়ার হ্যামলেটসের মাইলএন্ডে ছুরিকাঘাতে নিহত সৈয়দ জামানুর ইসলাম হত্যার দায়ে ১৬ বছরের এক কিশোরকে ১৬ বছরের জেলদন্ড দিয়েছে আদালত। শুক্রবার ইনার লন্ডন ক্রাউন কোর্টে চুড়ান্ত শুনানি শেষে জামানুরকে হত্যা, হত্যায় ষড়যন্ত্র, শারীরিকভাবে আঘাত, বেপোরোয়া গাড়ি চালানো এবং বিপজ্জনক অস্ত্র রাখার দায়ে আরো তিন তরুনকে ইয়াং অফেন্ডার হিসেবে দোষি সাব্যস্ত করে ১২ মাস করে ডিটেনশন এবং বিভিন্ন মেয়াদে আরো ৬ মাস করে সাজা প্রদান করেছেন বিচারক। রায়ে-সন্তোষ প্রকাশ করেছেন জামানুরের মা-বাবা।
জামানুর হত্যা মামলার মূল আসামীর বয়স বর্তমানে ১৬ বছর। ঘটনার সময়/ ছিলো মাত্র ১৫ বছর। অপ্রাপ্ত বয়স্ক হওয়ার কারনে তার নাম ও ছবি প্রকাশ করেনি আদালত। শুক্রবার চুড়ান্ত রায়ে তার ১৬ বছরের জেলদন্ড হয়েছে।
অপর তিন আসামীর একজন হচ্ছেন নাঈম চৌধুরী। তার বয়স ১৮ বছর। জামানুরকে শারীরিকভাবে আঘাতের ষড়যন্ত্রে জড়িত থাকার অভিযোগে তাকে ১২ মাসের সাজা দেওয়া হয়েছে ।
একইভাবে ১২ মাসের সাজা পেয়েছে ইসমাইল উদ্দিন। ১৮ বছর বয়সী এই তরুনের সাজা হয়েছে বিপজ্জনক অস্ত্র রাখার অভিযোগে।
১৯ বছর বয়সী সামিউর রহমানকেও সাজা ভোগ করতে হবে ১২ মাসের। তার অপরাধ বিচার কাজকে ভিন্নখাতে নেওয়ার ষড়যন্ত্র করেছে সে। এছাড়াও বিভিন্ন অপরাধে আরো ৬ মাস পর্যন্ত সাজা পেয়েছেন তারা।
ক্রাউন কোর্টে বসে বিচারের রায় শুনেছেন জামানুরের হতভাগ্য মা-বাবা। তারা এই রায়ে সন্তোষ প্রকাশ করেছেন। কমিউনিটিতে এই ধরনের অনাকাঙ্খিত ঘটনার যাতে পুনরাবিত্তি না হয় সেদিকে সবাইকে খেলায় রাখতে বলেছেন জামানুরের বাবা।
পুলিশের ডিটেকটিভ অফিসারও জানিয়েছেন রায়ের পর তার প্রতিক্রিয়া। তিনি বলেন, জামানুরের মৃত্যু ছিলো অত্যন্ত করুন। তার মতে-অপরাধির সঠিক বিচার হয়েছে।
রায় প্রকাশের সময় আদালতে উপস্থিত ছিলেন টাওয়ার হ্যামলেটসের জনপ্রতিনিধি কাউন্সিলার রাবিনা খান।
উল্লেখ্য ডিম ছুড়াকে কেন্দ্র করে চলতি বছরের ১১ এপ্রিল বিকেলে মাইলএন্ডের ওয়েজার স্ট্রীটে ঘরের সামনেই ছুরিকাঘাতের শিকার হন ২০ বছর বয়সী সৈয়দ জামানুর ইসলাম। এম্বুলেন্স আসার পূর্ব পর্যন্ত রক্তাক্ত জামানুর- তার মায়ের কুলেই শুয়েছিলো।
A 16-year-old boy has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 16 years for the murder of 20-year-old Syed Jamanoor Islam in Mile End in April 2017.
The 16-year-old male was found guilty of murder on Friday, 24 November following a trial at Inner London Crown Court. He was sentenced at the same court today.
Three other men were also sentenced today in connection with the events of Jamanoor’s murder.
Nayeem Chowdhury, 18 (03.02.99) of Burdett Road, E14 was sentenced to a total of 18 months for conspiracy to commit ABH and driving offences (linked to attempt to evade arrest).
Ismail Muhammad Uddin, 18 (20.09.99) of Cahir Street, E3 was sentenced to a total of 18 months for conspiracy to commit ABH and possession of an offensive weapon.
Samiur Rahman, 19 (25.10.98) of Cypress Street, E2 was sentenced to a total of 18 months for conspiracy to commit ABH and perverting the course of justice.
Chowdhury, Uddin and Rahman were also found guilty following a trial at the Inner London Crown Court on Friday, 24 November and were sentenced today at the same court.
Jamanoor, 20, was stabbed in Wager Street, E3, at around 16:45hrs on Tuesday, 11 April. He was rushed to an east London hospital where he was pronounced dead just after 17:30hrs.
A post-mortem examination which took place on 13 April gave the cause of death as a stab wound to his left leg which pierced the femoral artery and vein.
The court heard that the stabbing was an escalation of a dispute which started off with eggs being thrown by the victim’s brother in jest. This led to eggs being thrown at Jamanoor’s front door. It is believed that Chowdhury and Rahman were responsible.
This was taken as a sign of disrespect, and in turn led to the tyres on Chowdhury’s car being slashed, and an altercation where Rahman was assaulted.
On 11 April, the three suspects were caught on CCTV travelling around Wager Street in a Ford Fiesta vehicle rented by Rahman, looking for Jamanoor’s brother. They were armed with a hunting knife and a baseball bat.
Their intended target was not at home, but Jamanoor confronted Chowdhury. The pair fought, and Jamanoor was hit with a baseball bat by Ismail Uddin.
It was during this fight that the 16-year-old boy pulled out a knife and inflicted the fatal stab wound. The suspects subsequently made off towards Bow Common Lane, with Jamanoor mortally injured.
The Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command launched an investigation, and analysis of CCTV showed the defendants’ journey after the attack.
A jacket recovered at the crime scene contained Chowdury’s driving licence and car keys.
An hour after the attack, Rahman called police reporting the Ford Fiesta as stolen.
In the days after the murder, the defendants stayed in different places in the north of England and the Midlands, evading efforts to locate and detain them.
On 13 April, Chowdury bought a second-hand BMW in Birmingham, giving false details.
Police traced the vehicle and engaged in a high-speed pursuit on the M1 motorway in Yorkshire on 16 April which lasted half an hour and culminated in a stop and their arrest. The suspects had changed their appearance in the days after the murder, shaving their heads.
They were identified as being present during the altercation that led to Jamanoor’s death. They gave no comment when interviewed by officers and were subsequently charged.
In summing up the judge commended the efforts of the investigation team in what were described as very difficult circumstances.
Detective Chief Inspector Tony Lynes, who led the investigation, said: “Today’s sentencing is the culmination of a needless set of events in which Jamanoor lost his life; a trivial dispute escalating into murder.
“As a result a 16-year-old boy has been imprisoned, and Jamanoor’s family have been left broken by the brutal manner of his death. I can only hope this sentencing serves as both a small comfort to Jamanoor’s family as they attempt to move on with their lives without him, and also as a warning to any other young people thinking about carrying and using a knife that the consequences can be catastrophic.”
