ব্রিটবাংলা রিপোর্ট : ইংল্যান্ডের নিউক্যাসল শহরে শিশু যৌন নিপীড়ক চক্রের ১৭ পুরুষ ও ১ জন মহিলাকে দোষী সাব্যস্ত করেছে আদালত। বুধবার নিউক্যাসল ক্রাউন কোর্টে তাদের দোষি সাব্যস্ত করে রায় দেওয়া হয়।
কোর্টের রায়ে দোষি ১৮ জন হলেন ৩৫ বছর বয়সী মোহাম্মদ আযরাম, ৪৩ বছর বয়সী জাহাঙ্গীর জামান, নাসির উদ্দীন, সাইফুল ইসলাম, মোহাম্মদ হাসান আলী, ইয়াসের হোসেন, আব্দুল সেবি, হাবিবুর রাহীম, বাদরুল হোসাইন, মুহিবুর রহমান, আব্দুল্লা হামিদ মিনোয়ী, মনজুর চৌধুরী, প্রভাত নেলি, ঈসা মোসাভী, তাহেরুল আলম, নাদিম আসলাম, রেদওয়ান সিদ্দীক এবং একমাত্র স্বেতাঙ্গ মহিলা ক্যারোলেন গেলান। এদের সবার বয়স ২২ বছর থেকে ৪৫ বছরের ভেতরে। দোষিরা মূলত বাংলাদেশ, পাকিস্তান, ভারত, ইরাক, ইরান ও তুরস্ক বংশোদ্ভূত ব্রিটিশ নাগরিক। উত্তর-পূর্ব ইংল্যান্ডের নিউ ক্যাসলে ১৪ বছরের এক কিশোরীকে মাদক সেবন করিয়ে নিপীড়নের অভিযোগে আদালত তাদের দোষী সাব্যস্ত করেছে।
তদন্তে নেতৃত্ব দেন নর্থামব্রিয়া পুলিশের প্রধান কনস্টেবল স্টিভ অ্যাশম্যান। তিনি জানান, ২০১৩ সালের ডিসেম্বরে প্রাথমিক অনুসন্ধানের পর তদন্ত শুরু হয়। তদন্তে বেরিয়ে আসে যৌন নিপীড়নের ভয়াবহ তথ্য। অপারেশন স্যানচুরিয়া নামে বিশেষ তদন্তে ২০১১ থেকে ২০১৪ সালের ভেতরে যৌন লালসার শিকার ২০ জন যুবতী স্বাক্ষ প্রমান দেন।
পুলিশ জানিয়েছে, অপারেশন স্যানচুরিয়ার অধিনে প্রায় ৪৬১ জনকে গ্রেফতার করা হয়। প্রায় ৭০৩ জন সম্ভাব্য অভিযোগকারীর সঙ্গে কথা বলে পুলিশ এবং এর মধ্যে প্রায় ২৭৮ জন ভুক্তভোগী সনাক্ত করা হয়।
আদালতে দাখিল করা পুলিশের তদন্ত প্রতিবেদন অনুযায়ী— ভুক্তভোগীরা ধর্ষণ, নিপীড়ন ও যৌন নিপীড়নের কথা জানিয়েছেন। তাদের মদ বা মাদক সেবন করানো হতো। অনেক সময় অচেতন অবস্থায় তাদেরকে নিপীড়ন করা হতো।
শিশুর যৌন নিপীড়নবিরোধী সংস্থা প্যারেন্টস অ্যাগেইনস্ট চাইল্ড সেক্সুয়াল এক্সপ্লয়টেশনের (পিএসিই) এক মুখপাত্র মামলার রায়ে সন্তুষ্টি প্রকাশ করেছেন।
Operation Sanctuary: Newcastle child sex network convicted
Eighteen people have been convicted of abusing girls in Newcastle who were plied with alcohol and drugs before being forced to have sex.
The vulnerable victims, some as young as 14, were exploited by a “cynical organisation”, a court heard.
The 17 men and one woman were convicted of rape, supplying drugs and conspiracy to incite prostitution.
Over the course of four trials, 20 young women gave evidence covering a period from 2011 to 2014.
These trials involved 26 defendants, who were mostly Asian, facing a total of more than 100 charges and 22 victims.
Those prosecuted were from the Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Indian, Iraqi, Iranian and Turkish communities and mainly British-born, with most living in the West End of Newcastle
Northumbria Police set up Operation Sanctuary in December 2013 to investigate claims of sexual abuse against girls and young women.
The investigation is ongoing and to date has resulted in 461 arrests. Police have spoken to 703 potential complainants and 278 victims have been identified.
The 18 defendants and their convictions
- Mohammed Azram, 35 of Croydon Road, convicted of conspiracy to incite prostitution, sexual assault, supplying drugs to a victim
- Jahanghir Zaman, 43 of Hadrian Road, convicted of conspiracy to incite prostitution, rape, supplying drugs to a victim
- Nashir Uddin, 35 of Joan Street, convicted of conspiracy to incite prostitution, supplying drugs to a victim
- Saiful Islam, 34 of Strathmore Crescent, convicted of rape. Jailed for 10 years
- Mohammed Hassan Ali, 33 of Bentinck Street, convicted of sexual activity with a child, supplying drugs to a victim. Jailed for seven years
- Yasser Hussain, 27 of Canning Street, convicted of beating, possession of drugs. Jailed for two years
- Abdul Sabe, 40 of Dean House, convicted of conspiracy to incite prostitution, trafficking within the UK for sexual exploitation, drugs offences
- Habibur Rahim, 34 of Kenilworth Road, convicted of causing or inciting prostitution, drugs, sexual assault, trafficking within the UK for sexual exploitation
- Badrul Hussain, 37 of Drybeck Court, convicted of drug offences
- Mohibur Rahman, 44 of Northcote Street, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to incite prostitution, supplying drugs to a victim
- Abdulhamid Minoyee, 33 of Gainsborough Grove, convicted of rape, sexual assault, supply of drugs
- Carolann Gallon, 22 of Hareside Court, pleaded guilty to three counts of trafficking
- Monjour Choudhury, 33 of Phillip Place, convicted of conspiracy to incite prostitution, supplying drugs to a victim
- Prabhat Nelli, 33 of Sidney Grove, convicted of conspiracy to incite prostitution, supplying drugs to a victim
- Eisa Mousavi, 41 of Todds Nook, convicted of conspiracy to incite prostitution, rape, supplying drugs to a victim
- Taherul Alam, 32 of Normanton Terrace, convicted of conspiracy to incite prostitution, supplying drugs to a victim, attempted sexual assault
- Nadeem Aslam, 43 of Belle Grove West, convicted of supplying drugs to victims
- Redwan Siddquee, 32 of West Road, pleaded guilty to causing or inciting prostitution, supply or offering to supply a class B.
