ব্রিটবাংলা রিপোর্ট : বৃটেনের গত ৮ জুনের স্ন্যাপ জেনারেল ইলেকশনে সরকারের ১শ ৪০ মিলিয়ন পাউন্ডের বেশি অর্থ ব্যয় হয়েছে বলে জানিয়েছেন ক্যাবিনেট মিনিস্টার। ইইউ রেফারেন্ডামের পর প্রধানমন্ত্রী হিসেবে দায়িত্ব নিয়ে নিজের ক্ষমতাকে শক্তিশালি করার লক্ষ্যেই এই স্ন্যাপ জেনারেল ইলেকশন দিয়েছিলেন প্রধানমন্ত্রী থেরিজা মে। ইইউরে রেফারেন্ডামে ব্যয় হয়েছিল প্রায় ১শ ৪২ মিলিয়ন পাউন্ড। আর স্ন্যাপ জেনারেল ইলেকশনে ইংল্যান্ড, স্কটল্যান্ড এবং ওয়েলসে ট্যাক্সপেয়ারদের ১শ ৪০ মিলিয়ন পাউন্ডে বেশি ব্যয় হয়। এর মধ্যে প্রায় ৯৮ মিয়িলন পাউন্ড ব্যয় হয়েছে রিটার্নিং অফিসারদের ফি বাবদ আর ৪২ দশমিক ৫ মিলিয়ন পাউন্ড ব্যয় হয় নির্বাচন সংক্রান্ত মূদ্রন কাজে। বুধবার পার্লমেন্টকে এই তথ্য জানিয়েছেন ক্যাবিনেট অফিস মিনিষ্টার ক্রিস স্কীডমোর। এই নির্বাচনের মাধ্যমে ২০১৫ সালের নির্বাচনে এককভাবে ক্ষমতায় আসা টোরির, সংখ্যাগরিষ্ঠতা হারান প্রধানমন্ত্রী টেরিজা মে। পরবর্তীতে ডেমোক্রেটিক ইউনিয়নিস্ট পার্টির সমর্থন নিয়ে সরকার গঠন করেন থেরিজা মে। পার্লামেন্টে যে কোন বিল পাশের ক্ষেত্রে ভোট দিয়ে সরকারকে সহযোগিতা করবে ডেমোক্রেটিক ইউনিয়নিস্ট পার্টি।
Snap general election cost over £140m
Theresa May’s decision to call June’s snap general election cost taxpayers more than £140m, it has been revealed.
More than £98m was spent on returning officers’ fees and £42.5m on delivering election literature.
Mrs May lost her Commons majority in the election, which was called three years earlier than required under the Fixed-term Parliaments Act.
The figures, covering England, Scotland and Wales, were published by Cabinet Office Minister Chris Skidmore.
Mrs May announced the surprise election calling for a stronger mandate going into Brexit negotiations – but now has to rely on a deal with the Democratic Unionist Party to survive key votes.
The £140,850,000 cost is slightly below the estimated £142m spent on last year’s EU referendum.
