ব্রিটবাংলা রিপোর্ট : ইস্ট লন্ডনের স্ট্রাটফোর্ড টিউব স্টেশনে এক ঝটিকা অভিযানে নকল আগ্নেয়াস্ত্র, লম্বা ব্লেড-নাইফ, হাতুড়ি ও বালাক্লাভাসহ আটজন সন্ত্রাসীকে বৃহস্পতিবার আটক করেছে কাউন্টার টেরর পুলিশ।
পুলিশের বেশ কয়েকটি দল আকস্মিক এই নাটকীয় অভিযান চালাত। এ অভিযানে সংশ্লিষ্ট মেট-এর টাস্ক ফোর্স এবং ব্রিটিশ পরিবহন পুলিশ তাদের সৌশ্যল মিডিয়া অ্যাকাউন্টের মাধ্যমে আটকাভিযানে জব্দ করা অস্ত্রসহ বিভিন্ন ছবি প্রকাশ করে।
ওয়েস্টফিল্ড শপিং সেন্টারকে আক্রমণের জন্য একটি সম্ভাব্য টার্গেট হিসাবে চিহ্নিত করা হয়েছে, এমন পূর্বাভাসের ভিত্তিতে ব্রিটিশ ট্রান্সপোর্ট পুলিশ সাম্প্রতিক মাসগুলিতে বিশেষ করে স্ট্রাটফোর্ড অঞ্চলে তাদের নজরদারি ও টহল জোরদার করেছে।
পুলিশ ফোর্স-এর এক টুইট বার্তায় লেখা হয়: “স্ট্রাটফোর্ডে কি আজ অতিরিক্ত পুলিশ চাই? চিন্তা নেই। এটি ‘প্রজেক্ট সারভেটর’। আপনাকে সব সময় সতর্কতা অবলম্বনের কথা স্মরণ করিয়ে দিচ্ছে।”
‘প্রজেক্ট সারভেটর’ একটি দীর্ঘমেয়াদী অপারেশন যা বিশেষ করে সন্ত্রাসবাদের হুমকি মোকাবিলা করে।
Eight arrested in east london tube station
Counter-terrorism police swooped on a London tube station in a dramatic operation that saw eight arrested and various items seized – including an imitation gun and a foot-long bread knife.
A hammer and balaclava were also recovered after numerous teams carried out the raid at Stratford, in the east of the capital, yesterday.
The Met’s Task Force and British Transport Police, which were both involved in the operation, shared the images via their social media accounts.
BTP has been focused particularly on the Stratford area in recent months, with Westfield shopping centre having been identified as a potential target for an attack.
On Tuesday, the force tweeted: ‘Extra officers at #stratford today? No worries, it’s #ProjectServator, reminding you to be vigilant at all times.’
Project Servator is an long-running operation which specifically counters terrorism threats.
And a now-pinned tweet from May added: ‘You may see extra officers at Stratford. We’re here to reassure. Please remain vigilant & report anything suspicious.’
