Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s ‘Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan‘ was highly praised as a transformational nature-based investment and socio-economic growth concept at the Chatham House by Ban Ki-Moon, Chair of the Board of the Global Center on Adaptation andformer Secretary General of the UN, Ms.Anne-Marie Trevelyan, UK International Champion on Adaptation and Resilience for the COP26 Presidency and Minister for Business, Energy and Clean Growth, London-based Ambassadors and High Commissioners and Chatham House Director Robin Niblett CMG, during the diplomatic dialogue at the Chatham House yesterday.
Speaking as a panellist at the CoP–26 Diplomatic Dialogue on Adaptation and Resilience representing Bangladesh and the CVF Presidency, Bangladesh High Commissioner in the UK Saida Muna Tasneem said, ”Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,as the CVF President, launched the Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan, a transformative climate concept for sustainable economic growth through investing in nature and climate resilience. Bangladesh will continue to push forward climate prosperity agenda in the run-up to the CoP 26 and beyond.”
The High Commissioner also briefed the meeting of Bangladesh‘s national and also CVF climate priorities at the CoP-26 includingproposal of a High level meeting of the CVF-CoP 26 Presidency followed by a ‘CVF-COP26 Joint Declaration‘ during the Glasgow CoP-26 in November this year, loss and damage demands of the CVF countries, implementation of Carbon Trading under Article 6 and Global Goal on Adaptationunder Article 7 of the Paris Agreement, a dedicated UN Special Rapporteur on climate change and human rights.
During his speech, referring to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s successfulevacuation of 2.4 million of people during the super Cyclone Amphan in May last year, Ban Ki-Moon praised Bangladesh’s extra-ordinary capacity of early warning and disaster preparedness by terming Bangladesh a frontline Climate Leader. The UK CoP–26 Minister and the International Ambition Champion Anne-Marie Trevelyan while mentioning the four key goals of the UK as the CoP-26 President including mitigation, strengthening of adaptation, financing and international collaboration, reaffirmed UK’s continued climate partnership with Bangladesh under the 2019 Resilience and Adaptation Coalition and the 2021 Ambition Action Coalition towards tackling the impacts of climate change. A large number of High Commissioners and Ambassadors based in London and other European countries, representatives from the leading British climate think-tanks participated in the dialogue.
