Poet Hamid Mohammad’s birthday celebrated

Nowadays, nobody is satisfied with anything. Journalists, poets, businessmen and teachers all want to be MP-minister Everybody wants to do politics. Instead they should try to excel themselves in their respective fields.

Hamid Mohammad is different. He has engaged himself in creative streams including literary practices said Shamim Reza, Lecturer of the Mass Communication & Journalism of Dhaka University on the occasion of poet journalist Hamid Mohammad’s birthday party on Sunday. Other well-wishers present at the event described him as a ‘literary figure’. They said Hamid Mohammed is not only a cultural activist but also a progressive worker in the field of creativity.

The birthday event of Hamid Mohammad took place on Sunday, July 30 at the Kabi Nazrul Centre in East London organised by Chandosik. A good number of poets, journalists, cultural activists and community activists participated in the programme conducted by Moynur Rahman Babul. Poetry was recited by Chandosik’s poets including Munira Parveen. Emerging artist Nasima Queen sang and Hedayet Moula entertained the audience respectively with music and flute playing.

Poet Golam Kabir, journalist Abu Musa Hassan, vice president of Udichi Rafiqul Hasan Khan Jinnah, journalist Ishaque Kajal, chief editor of the weekly Potrika, Mohammad Belal Ahmed, Barrister Tariq Chowdhury, editor of Bangla Post, journalist Nilufar Yasmin, politician Goyasur Rahman Goyas, Nirmul Committee’s Executive President Syed Enamul Islam, Communist Party’s General Secretary Nisar Ahmed, Daily Star’s Ansar Ahmed Ullah, poet Milton Rahman, researcher Faruque Ahmed, politician Jamal Khan, poet Shahnaz Sultana, poet Anwarul Islam Ovi, poet Majed Biswas, journalist Jewel Raj, Prothom Alo UK representative Tabarukul Islam, poet Helal Saif , Bengali TV reporter Ruhul Amin, Aminul Haque Jillu, Aminur Rahman Khan and poet Jamil Sultan from Luton were amongst others wished Hamid Mohammad Happy Birthday and a long life. Also present at the programme were poet’s wife Reba Akter Chowdhury and son Saikat Hamid Rony.

Hamid Mohammed’s poem was recited by Munira Parvin, poet Ghulam Kabir, Ajanta Dev Roy, Nazrul Islam Okib, Tahera Chowdhury Lipi, Shatarupa Chowdhury and young poet Afra Khandaker Nidhi. Besides, poet T.M. Ahmed Kaiser’s message in a poem was read out by poet Anwarul Islam Ovi and poet Nuruzzaman Moni’s poem was recited by Jamil Sultan. Sarwar Kabir, reporter of the weekly Potrika read out the life of Hamid Mohammad.

The event ended with Cake cutting. Colourful balloons were let off and the poet was greeted with flowers. Apart from this, the cover of 11 books of the author and photographs were displayed on the walls.
