ব্রিটবাংলা রিপোর্ট : লন্ডনের ব্যস্ততম ওয়াটারলো স্টেশনে নেটওয়ার্ক রেলের ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং কাজ শুরু হয়েছে শনিবার থেকে। এর ফলে স্টেশনের প্রায় ১০টি প্ল্যাটফর্ম আগামী ২৭ আগষ্ট পর্যন্ত বন্ধ থাকবে। ২৮ আগষ্ট ব্যাংক হলিডের দিনে এগুলো খুলে দেওয়ার কথা রয়েছে। কাজ চলার সময় ১ থেকে ৯ নম্বর প্ল্যাটফর্ম সম্পূর্ণ বন্ধ থাকবে। আর পুরোপুরি খোলা থাকবে প্ল্যাটফর্ম ১০ থেকে ১৯। তবে সীমিত সার্ভিস থাকবে ২০ থেকে ২৪ নম্বর প্ল্যাটফর্মে। ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং কাজের ফলে সৃষ্ট দুর্ভোগের জন্যে যাত্রীদের প্রতি দুঃখ প্রকাশ করেছেন নেটওয়ার্ক রেলের চীফ এক্সিকিউটিভ মার্ক কার্নি। কাজ চলার সময় এই স্টেশনের নিয়মিত যাত্রীদের হলিডে নেওয়ার বা ঘরে বসে কাজ করার পরামর্শ দিয়েছেন তিনি। এর বাইরে খুব সকালে অথবা দেরিতে ভ্রমনের জন্যে ওয়াটারলো স্টেশনের যাত্রীদের আহ্বান জানান নেটওয়ার্ক রেলে চীফ এক্সিকিউটিভ। ওয়াটারলো স্টেশনে প্রতিদিন প্রায় অর্ধ মিলিয়নের বেশি যাত্রী যাতায়াত করেন। রেল স্টেশনগুলোর আধুনিকায়নে নেটওয়ার্ক রেল প্রায় ৮শ মিলিয়ন পাউন্ড বিনিয়োগ করবে আগামী এক দশকের ভেতরে। এই প্রজেক্টের অধিনেই ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং কাজ হচ্ছে ওয়াটারলো স্টেশনে।
Ten platforms will be closed in London’s Waterloo station
The works at London’s Waterloo station will begin this Saturday, August 5.
Passengers should expect disruption for three weeks due the major engineering project at the station.
Ten platforms will be closed in the UK’s busiest railway station until August 28, 2017 – the August bank holiday weekend.
There will be a significant reduction in South West Trains services from popular commuter locations such as Woking, Guildford and Surbiton.
Waterloo station carries more than half a million passengers every day.
Network Rail Chief executive Mark Carne said that he is ‘worried there will be challenging days’ and ‘there are going to be days when the service is very difficult for people.’
The rail service advises passengers to take holidays, work from home, or travel at earlier or later times while the work is being carried out.
The station will not be closed completely as platforms 10-19 will still be open for passengers.
There will be a limited service on platforms 20-24, but platforms 1-9 will be closed completely.
You can expect services at Clapham Junction, Vauxhall and Richmond to be a lot busier because of the disruption at Waterloo.
Network Rail are investing over $800m pounds to undertake the biggest improvement to the railway in decades.
The project at Waterloo will extend platforms to allow longer trains to operate on suburban routes from December next year.
