ব্রিটবাংলা রিপোর্ট । ব্রেক্সিটজ আলোচনার সময় ইইউ বাণিজ্য চুক্তিতে পৌঁছানো না হলে ব্রিটেনকে অবশ্যই পিছু হটার জন্য তৈরি থাকতে হবে বলে সতর্ক করেছেন ইংল্যান্ডের সাবেক গভর্নর মর্ভিন কিং। তিনি বলেছেন, বাণিজ্য চুক্তি ব্যর্থ হলে ব্রেক্সিট পরবর্তী বিকিল্প কি ব্রিটিশ মধ্যস্থতাকারীদের সেটা ব্রাসেলসকে দেখাতে হবে।
‘নো ডীল’ কারোরই প্রথম পছন্দ নয় বলে জানান সাবেক গভর্নর। তিনি আরও বলেন, এ ক্ষেত্রে কন্টিঞ্জেন্সি পরিকল্পনা নিতে সরকার সম্ভবত এক বছর সময় অপচয় করে ফেলেছে।
ইউরোপীয় কমিশনে ব্রেক্সিটের প্রথম দফা আলোচনার রাউন্ড জুলাই মাসে শেষ হয়েছে।
ব্রেক্সিট সেক্রেটারি বলেছেন যুক্তরাজ্যের “বিবাহবিচ্ছেদ” নিষ্পত্তির খরচ বিষয়ে অগ্রগতির অভাবের কারণে ব্রাসেলসে বাণিজ্য আলোচনা বিলম্ব হতে পারে।
বিবিসি রেডিও ফোর-এর টুডে প্রোগ্রামে বক্তব্য রাখার সময় লর্ড কিং বলেন, ব্রেক্সিট আলোচনায় আমরা একই জাগায় রয়েছি। এ বিষয়ে আগ্রগতি অত্যন্ত জরুরী।
আগে প্রধানমন্ত্রী টেরিজা মে বলেছিলেন, ‘ব্যাড ডীল’-এর চেয়ে ‘নো ডীল’-ই ভালো।
UK ‘must prepare a Brexit fallback’
The UK needs a “credible fallback” in case no EU trade deal is reached during Brexit negotiations, former Bank of England governor Mervyn King has said.
Lord King said British negotiators needed to show Brussels the country has an alternative over a bad trade deal post-Brexit.
The former governor, who served between 2003 and 2013, said no deal was “not the first preference of anybody”.
He said the government “probably wasted a year” on its contingency plans.
The first round of Brexit negotiations at the European Commission ended in July.
Brexit Secretary David Davis said Brussels might delay trade talks due to a lack of progress on the cost of the UK’s “divorce” settlement.
Lord King said: “We are where we are, and we are in a negotiation and it’s important that the negotiation succeeds.
“But it cannot succeed without a credible fallback position and that is something which I think is a practical thing that the civil service ought to be taking a lead on.”
Previously Prime Minister Theresa May has said: “No deal is better than a bad deal.”
