ব্রিটবাংলা ডেস্ক : ইংল্যান্ডের বিভিন্ন সমুদ্রতীরে গত পাঁচ বছরে প্রায় সাত হাজার নিখোঁজ শিশুকে উদ্ধার করেছে রয়েল ন্যাশনাল লাইফগার্ড ইনস্টিটিউট সংক্ষেপে আরএনএলআই। ইংল্যান্ডের জনপ্রিয় হলিডে স্পট ডেভোন, কর্নওয়েলসহ বিভিন্ন সমুদ্র তীরে সামার হলিডে কাটাতে আসা পরিবারের শিশুরাই নিখুঁজ হয় বেশি। সামার অর্থাৎ গ্রীস্মকালীন ছুটিতে গড়ে প্রতিদিন প্রায় ৪০টির মতো নিখোঁজের ঘটনা ঘটে থাকে বলে জানিয়েছে আরএনএলআই।
চলতি গরমের মধ্যে জরুরী নাম্বারে ৯৯৯ অসংখ্য কল রিসিভ করা হয়েছে শুধু শিশু উদ্ধারের জন্যেই। উদ্ধারকর্মীরা জানিয়েছেন, নিখোঁজ সংবাদ শোনার পর তাদের মধ্যে সবসময় নিখোঁজ শিশু কোথায় এবং কিভাবে নিখোঁজ হয়েছে সেই চিন্তাই বেশি থাকে। কারণ শিশুদের জোয়ারের পানিতে ভেসে যাওয়ার সম্ভাবনাই বেশি থাকে জানিয়েছেন তারা।
আরএনএলআই জানিয়েছে, ২০১৩ সালে ১, ৫১৬, ২০১৪ সালে ১,২৬৭, ২০১৫ সালে ১,০৭০, ২০১৬ সালে ১,৭৪৫ এবং ২০১৭ সালে ১,৩৯১জন শিশু নিখোঁজ হয়েছে।
তবে সমুদ্রতীরে কেউ হারিয়ে গেলে বা সমুদ্রতীরে শিশু নিয়ে যাওয়ার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে করণীয় কিছু বিষয়ে পরামর্শ দিয়েছে আরএনএলআই।
এগুলো হল, যে সমুদ্র তীরে যাওয়ার পর শিশুদের সর্বদা নজরে রাখার পাশাপাশি লাইফগার্ড অফিস চিহ্নিত করে, তাদের রেড এবং ইয়েলো ইউনিফর্ম দেখিয়ে, হারিয়ে যাওয়ার গেলে তাদের সাথে কথা বলার জন্যে শিশুদের বুঝিয়ে দিতে অভিভাবকদের পরামর্শ দিয়েছে আরএনএলআই। এছাড়া যে কোনো সমুদ্রতীরে গিয়ে প্রথমেই একটা স্থান চিহ্নিত করে শিশুদের বুঝিয়ে দেওয়া যে, হারিয়ে গেলে বা আলাদা হলে এই স্থানে এসে অপেক্ষা করার জন্যে।
স্থানীয় লাইফগার্ড অফিসে যদি লিখিত হ্যান্ড ব্যান্ড থাকে, তাহলে তা সংগ্রহ করে শিশু নাম এবং অভিভাবকের টেলিফোন নাম্বার লিখে শিশুর হাতে লাগিয়ে দেওয়ার পরামর্শ দেওয়া হয়েছে। আর যদি শিশু হারিয়ে যায় তাহলে সঙ্গে সঙ্গে লাইফগার্ড অফিসে জানাতে অনুরোধ করা হয়েছে।
Lifeguards have helped find almost 7,000 lost children on English beaches in five years, the BBC has learned.
Crowded beaches in popular holiday spots such as Devon and Cornwall can each see up to 40 cases in a single day during the summer, the RNLI said.
HM Coastguard said its operations centres had been inundated with related 999 calls in recent hot weather and it used “significant resources”.
It issued a plea for parents to “know where their children are at all times”.
Mark Rodaway, duty commander for UK Coastguard, said: “It’s always a huge worry when children go missing near the beach – not just for the parents but for our coastguards as well.”
The RNLI said its main concerns were the risk of children being swept into the sea and drowning, or slipping on cliffs and getting injured.

How to avoid losing children on the beach
- Keep an eye on your children at all times
- As soon as you arrive at the beach, locate the lifeguards; make sure your children know what they look like in their red and yellow uniforms and who to head to if you get separated
- When arriving at the beach, establish your location, look for a recognisable landmark and discuss it with your children
- Ask the lifeguards if they operate a wrist band scheme on which you can write your phone number so someone can contact you if your child is found
- If you do lose your children, alert the lifeguards as soon as possible
