ব্রিটবাংলা ডেস্ক : কভেন্ট্রিতে দ্রুতগামী গাড়ির চাপায় ৬ বছর এবং ২ বছর বয়সী দুই ছেলের মর্মান্তিক মৃত্যু হয়েছে। বৃহস্পতিবার বিকাল আনুমানিক ২টার দিকে স্টোকের ম্যাকডোনাল্ড রোডে এই ঘটনা ঘটে। গাড়ি চাপার পর গুরুতর আহত অবস্থায় হাসপাতালের নেওয়ার পর তাদের মৃত্যু হয়।
এ ঘটনার পরপরই ৫৩ বছর বয়সী এক পুরুষ এবং ৪২ বছর বয়সী এক মহিলাকে গ্রেফতার করা হয়েছে। বিপজ্জনকভাবে দ্রুত গতিতে গাড়ি চালানো এবং গাড়ি চালানোর সময় ড্রিংক করার ফলে এই মৃত্যু ঘটে থাকতে পারে বলে সন্দেহ করছে পুলিশ। এই ঘটনার সঙ্গে সংশ্লিষ্ট সন্দেহে আটক পুরুষ ও মহিলাকে গ্রেফতার দেখিয়েছে পুলিশ। এ ঘটনার কিছুক্ষণ পরে পরিত্যক্ত অবস্থায় কালো রঙের একটি ফর্ড ফোকাস উদ্ধার করে পুলিশ।
ওয়েস্ট মিডল্যান্ডস এম্বুলেন্স সার্ভিস জানিয়েছে, দুবছরের শিশুকে কভেন্ট্রির ইউনিভার্সিটি হাসপাতালে নেওয়া হলে সেখানে প্রথম তাকে মৃত ঘোষণা করে পুলিশ। বিকাল সোয়া চারটার দিকে তার মৃত হয়। অন্যদিকে ছ’ বছরের শিশুকে নেওয়া হয় বার্মিংহ্যাম চিলড্রেন হাসপাতালে। পৌনে সাতটার দিকে সেও মৃত্যুবরন করে।
Brothers, 6 and 2, killed in ‘hit-and-run’ in Coventry
Two brothers aged six and two have died after a suspected hit-and-run crash in Coventry. They were struck by a car on MacDonald Road, Stoke, at about 14:00 GMT and taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
A 53-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drink driving.
A black Ford Focus was found abandoned a short time after the crash.
The two-year-old boy was the first to be pronounced dead in a police statement at 16:19.
A police statement at 18:45 then said: “Despite the best efforts of hospital staff, the six-year-old brother involved in the collision has also sadly died. Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with the family of the two boys.”
Police officers have been speaking to witnesses at the scene and the road remains closed.
West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) said the two-year-old boy was taken to University Hospital Coventry and the six-year-old was taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
WMAS sent four ambulances, two paramedic officers and a critical care car from the air ambulance service.
