ব্রিটবাংলা ডেস্ক : কাউন্সিলর রাবিনা খানের নেতৃত্বে পিপলস এলায়েন্স অব টাওয়ার হ্যামলেস কাউন্সিল নির্বাচনের জন্যে রাজনৈতিক পার্টি হিসেবে ইলেক্ট্ররাল কমিশনের আনুষ্ঠানিক অনুমোদন লাভ করেছে। সব ধরনের শর্ত পুরন করেই পিপলস এলায়েন্স অব টাওয়ার হ্যামলেটস ইংল্যান্ডের একটি বৈধ রাজনৈতিক সংগঠন হিসেবে অনুমোদন লাভ করে বলে জানিয়েছে ইলেক্ট্ররাল কমিশন।
স্বতন্ত্র কাউন্সিলর রাবিনা খান পিপলস এলায়েন্স গ্রুপটি তৈরী করেছেন। কাউন্সিলর রাবিনা খান সাবেক মেয়র লুৎফুর রহমানের আমলে হাউসিং বিভাগের লিড মেম্বার ছিলেন। ইলেকশন কোর্টের রায়ে লুৎফর রহমান টাউন হল থেকে বিদায় নেওয়ার পর পরবর্তী উপনির্বাচনে লুৎফুর সমর্থন নিয়ে ইন্ডিপেনডেন্ট গ্রুপের মেয়র প্রার্থী হিসেবে প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বীতা করেন তিনি। এরপর থেকে অত্যন্ত সফলভাবে লেবার মেয়র জনবিগসের অপজিশন হিসেবে টাউন হলে ভুমিকা রেখে যাচ্ছেন।
কিন্তু ২০১৮ সালের মেয়র নির্বাচনে প্রার্থীতা নিয়ে গ্রুপের সঙ্গে মতানৈক্য সৃস্টি হওয়ার পর ইন্ডিপেনডেন্ট গ্রুপ থেকে বের হয়ে গঠন করেন পিপলস এলায়েন্সগ্রুপ অব টাওয়ার হ্যামলেটস।
তিন সন্তানের জননী কাউন্সিলর রাবিনা খান শেডওয়েল ওয়ার্ডের কাউন্সিলর। পিপলস এলায়েন্স অব টাওয়ার হ্যামলেটসের ব্যানারে কঠোর পরিশ্রমি রাবিনা খান তার ওয়ার্ডসহ বারার জনস্বার্থ বিরোধী যে কোনো ইস্যুতে সোচ্ছার ভুমিকা পালন করে যাচ্ছেন। বারার হাউসিং সমস্যা, নাইফ ক্রাইম, এসিড এট্যাকসহ বিভিন্ন ইস্যুতে তিনি জোড়ালো ক্যাম্পেইন করে যাচ্ছেন। বারার রেন্টারদের অধিকার রক্ষা, ওয়েটিং লিস্টে থাকা নাগরিকদের দুর্ভোগ লাঘবে কাউন্সিলের উদ্যোগে বছরে অন্তত ৫শ এফোর্ডেবল বাড়ি নির্মাণ করতে চায় পিপলস এলায়েন্স। একই সঙ্গে বারার নার্সারীগুলোকে প্রাইভেটাইস করার বিপক্ষেও ক্যাম্পেইন করছে কাউন্সিলর রাবিনা খানের নেতৃত্বে পিপলস এলায়েন্স।
সব ধরনের শর্ত পুরন করেই কাউন্সিলর রাবিনা খানের নেতৃত্বে পিপলস এলায়েন্স অব টাওয়ার হ্যামলেটস ইংল্যান্ডের একটি বৈধ রাজনৈতিক সংগঠন হিসেবে অনুমোদন লাভ করেছে বলে জানিয়েছে ইলেক্ট্ররাল কমিশন। একটি বৈধ রাজনৈতিক দল হিসেবে পিপলস এলায়েন্স এখন থেকে টাওয়ার হ্যামলেটসে ক্যাম্পেইন করতে পারবে।
People’s Alliance has got recognition as a political party
A group of opposition members of Tower Hamlets Council has been formally recognised as a political party by the Electoral Commission in time to take on Labour in May’s local elections.
Its leader, Rabina Khan, who is running for Mayor, can now campaign under the official People’s Alliance of Tower Hamlets tag.Her small group has made it onto the Great Britain register of political parties in England.She is no stranger to Tower Hamlets’ hot politics or its rough waters from the dark days of disgraced former mayor Lutfur Rahman.Cllr Khan was Rahman’s cabinet member for housing until his downfall in 2015, then became his protégé for mayor after he was banned from office, but was defeated by Labour’s John Biggs at the 2015 polls.The working mum-of-three from Shadwell has since dissociated herself from the Rahman camp, to emerge as a formidable opponent to the Labour administration in her own right.“This Electoral Commission registration gives our coalition of councillors and grassroots activists the platform to challenge Mayor Biggs’ record,” she told the East London Advertiser.“Never again can this borough fail Ofsted. Never again can we have bribery scandals on our planning committee. Never again can we top the league tables for rat infestations.“Tower Hamlets needs a people’s mayor and a sense of hope and feeling protected in the uncertainty of this Brexit era.”
