ব্রিটবাংলা ডেস্ক : কিশোর শিক্ষার্থীকে যৌন হয়রানীর দায়ে নটিংহ্যামশায়ারে এক ঈমামকে পাঁচ বছরের জেলদন্ড দিয়েছে নটিংহ্যাম ক্রাউন কোর্ট। বৃহস্পতিবার এই সাজার মেয়াদ ঘোষণা করা হয়।
এর আগে গত ২৩ মে একই আদালতে তাকে দোষি সাব্যস্ত করা হয়। ঈমামের নাম মোহাম্মদ রাবানী। বয়স ৬১ বছর। নটিংহ্যামশায়ারের স্নেইনটন মসজিদে তিনি গত ২৫ বছরের বেশি সময় ধরে ঈমামতি করেন। ঈমাম রাবানী স্নেইনটনের সেন্ট স্টিফেন রোডের বাসিন্দা।
নটিংহ্যাম ক্রাউন কোর্টের শুনানি শেষে মসজিদের ভেতরে ছোট রুমে এক কিশোরকে অশুভন হয়রানীর সাথে সংশিষ্ট তিনটি অভিযোগে ঈমাম রাবানীকে দোষি সাব্যস্ত করা হয়। যদিও তার বিরুদ্ধে সব অভিযোগ তিনি অস্বীকার করে আসছিলেন।
১৯৯০ সাল থেকে ১৯৯২ সালের ভেতরে ১২ থেকে ১৩ বছর বয়সী কিশোরের সঙ্গে এসব বাজে ব্যবহার করেন ঈমাম রাবানী। ঘটনার প্রায় ২০ বছর পরে ২০১৫ সালে ওই ঈমামের হয়রানীর শিকার ভুক্তভোগি পুলিশের কাছে গিয়ে অভিযোগ করেন।
গত বুধবার রায় ঘোষনার সময় জাজ জানিয়েছেন, ঈমামের কাছে অনেক বিশ্বাস এবং আস্থা নিয়ে ধর্মীয় জ্ঞানার্জনের জন্যে কিশোরটি এসেছিল। কিন্তু তিনি পবিত্র একটি প্রতিষ্ঠানের ভেতরে তার প্রভাব খাটিয়ে কিশোরের সঙ্গে যৌন হয়রানীমুলক আচরন করেছেন। জুরি সদস্যরা তার বিরুদ্ধে এসব অভিযোগের প্রমান পেয়েছেন। তাই ঈমাম রাবানীকে জেলে যাওয়া ছাড়া বিকল্প নেই। বৃহস্পতিবার ঈমামকে পাঁচ বছরের জেলদন্ড দেওয়া হয়।
A Nottingham Imam who indecently assaulted a teenage boy has today been jailed for five years.
Mohammed Aslam Rabani, 61, of St Stephen’s Road, Sneinton was convicted of three counts of indecent assault the offences on 23 May, following the conclusion of an eight-day trial at Nottingham Crown Court.
Rabani, who was the Iman at the Jamia Masjid Sultana mosque, formerly at Thurgaton Street, in Sneinton, indecently assaulted the same boy between June 1990 and June 1993, when the victim was aged between 11 and 17.
Speaking after sentencing, DI Sam Austin said: “We are pleased with today’s sentencing, and hope it shows that no matter when an offence happens, we take it seriously and will investigate thoroughly.
“People may be shocked that someone in such a high profile community role could do this. The evidence has proved this happened, and I would encourage anyone who has concerns about this case, or who believes they have also been a victim of abuse from this man, to come and talk to us.
