ব্রিটবাংলা রিপোর্ট : ইস্ট লন্ডনের বাঙালী অধ্যুষিত বারা টাওয়ার হ্যামলেটসে গত জানুয়ারী থেকে সেপ্টেম্বর মাসের ভেতরে প্রায় ১২শ অপরাধ সংঘটিত হয়েছে পারিবারিক বলয়ের ভেতরে। অন্যদিকে পার্শ্ববর্তী বারা নিউহ্যামে এই সংখ্যা প্রায় ১৮শ। এর আগে এই সংখ্যা ছিল ১৪৬০।
ইস্ট লন্ডন এডভার্টারাইজে প্রকাশিত এক সংবাদ থেকে এই তথ্য জানা গেছে। ফ্রিডম অফ ইনফরমেশন থেকে এই তথ্য সংগ্রহ করা হয়েছে বলে সংবাদে উল্লেখ করা হয়।
তাতে বলা হয়েছে, টাওয়ার হ্যামলেটসে একই পারিবারের সদস্যদের মধ্যে সংঘটিত ১১৯৫টি অপরাধের ঘটনা রেকর্ড করা হয়েছে গত জানুয়ারী থেকে সেপ্টম্বরের ভেতরে। যা বারায় সংঘটিত সার্বিক অপরাধের ৬ শতাংশ এবং হিংসাত্মক অপরাধগুলোর মধ্যে প্রায় ১৬ শতাংশ। পরিবারের অভ্যন্তরীন দ্বন্দ্বের ফলে এই অপরাধগুলো সংঘটিত হয়েছে। রক্তের সম্পর্ক, বিয়ে বা সিভিল পার্টনার এবং অভিভাবকত্বের সম্পর্কে সম্পৃক্ত একে অন্যের মধ্যে সংঘটিত অপরাধকেই পরিবারের অভ্যন্তরীণ দ্বন্দ্ব বা অপরাধ হিসেবে বিবেচনা করা হয়েছে বলে সংবাদে উল্লেখ করা হয়।
একই সময়ের ভেতরে টাওয়ার হ্যামলেটসে ৭৫টি যৌন হয়রানী সংক্রান্ত অপরাধ, ৬টি ছিনতাই, ১২টি ডাকাতি, ৩৯টি ছুরিসহ ১১৫টি আর্সেন এবং ক্ষতিকারক অপরাধের ঘটনাও ঘটেছে। এছাড়াও ৯টি গাড়ি সংক্রান্ত অপরাধের ঘটনা ঘটে। গত জানুয়ারী থেকে সেপ্টম্বরের ভেতর তিনটি মাদক সংক্রান্ত অপরাধ, দু’টি সশস্ত্র অপরাধসহ অন্যান্য ১৪ টি অপরাধের ঘটনার রিপোর্ট রেকর্ড করা হয়েছে।
তবে সাম্প্রতিক সময়ে শুধু টাওয়ার হ্যামলেটসই নয়, পুরো লন্ডনজুরেই পরিবারের অভ্যন্তরীণ কলহের জেরে অপরাধের মাত্রা বৃদ্ধি পেয়েছে। ২০১৪ সালে পুরো লন্ডনে এ ধরনের অপরাধ সংঘটিত হয়েছিল ৪০ হাজার ১শ ৫৪ জন। ২০১৫ সালে তা বেড়ে দাড়ায় ৪৫ হাজার ৬৬৬তে। আর ২০১৬ সালে সেই সংখ্যা বেড়ে হয় ৪৬ হাজার ৪১০।
Almost 1,200 crimes committed between family members in Tower Hamlets
Almost 1,200 violent crimes have taken place in Tower Hamlets between January and September where the victim and the suspect are related, FOI data reveals.
A total of 1,194 crimes committed between family members were reported in the borough – this is roughly 6 per cent of all crimes and 16 pc of all violent crimes.
This is in line with the London-wide average.
Intra-family crime is defined as any offence where the victim is related either through blood, marriage, civil partnership or guardianship to the suspect.
The full scale of the problem is likely to be considerably worse than these figures suggest — it is widely acknowledged domestic crimes are significantly less likely to be reported than other types of crime.
Unmesh Desai, London Assembly member for east London, said: “We do not really know the full scale of what is going on.”
Other intra-family crimes that have taken place in Tower Hamlets between January and September are 75 sexual offences, six robberies, 12 burglaries, nine vehicle offences, 39 thefts and 115 incidents of criminal damage and arson.
There were also three drugs offences, two weapons possessions and 14 other offences.
Across London, intra-family crime levels have been getting worse in recent years.
There were 40,154 such offences in 2014, 45,666 in 2015 and 46,410 in 2016.
Neighbouring Newham has the highest number of recorded intra-family crimes, recording 1,807 between January and September, 1,460 of which were violent.
