ব্রিটবাংলা ডেস্ক : ‘পানিশ এ মুসলিম ডে’ চিঠির সঙ্গে সংশ্লিষ্ট সন্দেহে ৩৫ বছর বয়সী এক ব্যক্তিকে গ্রেফতার করেছে পুলিশ। মঙ্গলবার সাউথ লিঙ্কন এলাকা থেকে তাকে গ্রেফতার করা হয়। ওয়েস্ট ইয়র্কশায়ার পুলিশ হেফাজতে রেখে তাকে জিজ্ঞাসাবাদ করা হচ্ছে।
লিঙ্কনশায়ার পুলিশ জানিয়েছে, সাউথ লিঙ্কনের আবাসিক এলাকা এবং অফিস ভবনসহ বেশ কয়েকটি জায়গায় অভিযান চালিয়ে তাকে গ্রেফতার করা হয়েছে।
৩রা এপ্রিলকে ‘পানিশ মুসলিম ডে’ পালনের ডাক দিয়ে জীবননাশি পাউডারসহ বিভিন্নভাবে মুসলিমদের হয়রানী, হত্যা, নির্যাতনের হুমকি দেওয়া হয়েছিল চিঠির মাধ্যমে। এই চিঠি ডাকযোগে এবং ইমেইলে গত মার্চে লন্ডনসহ ইউকের বিভিন্ন এলাকায় মুসলিম এমপি, মসজিদ, ইসলাম ধর্মীয় শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানসহ বিভিন্ন ব্যক্তি ও প্রতিষ্ঠানে পাঠানো হয়েছিল।
এই চিঠির উৎস খুঁজের সন্ধানে পুলিশের ধারাবাহিক তদন্তের অংশ হিসেবে মঙ্গলবার সাউথ লিঙ্কনে অভিযান চালিয়ে ৩৫ বছর বয়সী এই ব্যক্তিকে গ্রেফতার করে পুলিশ। পানিশ এ মুসলিম ডে ক্যাম্পেইনের সাথে সংশ্লিষ্ট সন্দেহে তাকে গ্রেফতার দেখিয়ে তাকে জিজ্ঞাসাবাদ করা হচ্ছে।
A man has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder over the so-called “Punish a Muslim Day” letters that were circulated across London and other UK cities.
The 35-year-old man, from South Lincoln, was detained on Tuesday and remains in custody in West Yorkshire.
Lincolnshire Police said the man had been arrested on suspicion of sending a hoax noxious substance, sending threatening letters and conspiracy to commit murder.
Searches have taken place at a residential property in south Lincoln and an office building in the city centre.
It follows a number of reports of hate mail being received in March.
A police spokesman said: “We understand that people may be concerned following this activity.
“However, we would like to reassure communities that this activity is a result of an ongoing, intelligence led investigation and was not in response to an immediate threat.”
