ব্রিটবাংলা ডেস্ক : ব্রিটবাংলা ডেস্ক : মহিলা রোগিকে যৌন হয়রানীর দায়ে বার্মিংহ্যামের এক জিপিকে জেলদন্ড দিয়েছে আদালত। দন্ডিত জিপির নাম ডাক্তার রাজেশ কুমার মেহতা। তার বয়স ৬৪ বছর।
২০১৬ সালের মে মাসে বার্মিংহ্যামের স্পার্কহিল প্রাইমারী কেয়ার এ্ড কমিউনিটি সেন্টারের ওয়াক ইন ক্লিনিকে এই ঘটনা ঘটে।
বার্মিংহ্যাম ক্রাউন কোর্ট জানিয়েছে, এক্সাইটিতে আক্রান্ত দু’ সন্তানের এক জননী চিকিতসার জন্যে সেখানে গিয়েছিলেন। মহিলা রোগি পরীক্ষা-নিরীক্ষার জন্যে ডাক্তারের ডায়াগনস্টিক বেঞ্চে শুয়েছিলেন। এ সময় ডাক্তার মেহতা রোগির ব্রা সরিয়ে তার স্তনে হাত বুলাতে থাকেন। একই সঙ্গে মহিলা রোগির ব্যক্তিগত জীবন নিয়ে নানান প্রশ্ন করেন। এতে হতবাক মহিলা রোগি চ্যালেঞ্জ করলে ডাক্তার মেহতা নিরবে স্থান ত্যাগ করেন।
আদালতের শুনানিতে ডাক্তার মেহতা দোষি সাব্যস্ত হন। আদালত তাকে ১৫ মাসের জেল দন্ড দিয়েছে। সোমবার রায় ঘোষণার সময় ডাক্তার মেহতাকে দশ বছরের জন্যে সেক্স অফেন্ডার হিসেবে তালিকাভুক্ত করার আদেশ দিয়েছেন বার্মিংহ্যাম ক্রাউন কোর্টের বিচারক।
Doctor groped patient’s breasts
A GP who groped a woman’s breasts after she visited him fearing she had suffered a heart attack has been jailed. The victim visited a walk-in clinic at the Sparkhill Primary Care and Community Centre in Birmingham in May 2016 fearing she had shown symptoms, and was seen by Dr Rajeshkumar Mehta who had been working there for a short time on an ad hoc basis.
The 64-year-old medic heard the woman could not identify the sensations in her body and had been suffering from anxiety. Mehta took down some details, then asked her to lie down on the diagnostic couch. She unbuttoned her blouse in anticipation of the examination but the GP pulled down her vest and bra, exposing her breasts and fondling them. The victim was ‘frozen with shock’, the court was told. After she challenged Mehta he stopped what he was doing and moved away. But it was ‘obvious’ he had obtained sexual gratification from what he had done, the court heard.
Mehta then asked her questions about her personal life and sexual partners, making her feel uncomfortable. The mother-of-two did not complain straight away but, after speaking to one of her daughters, went back to the surgery and reported what had happened to her.
Dr Rajeshkumar Mehta was found guilty of sexual assault following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court and sentenced to 15 months in jail. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years.
