ব্রিটবাংলা ডেস্ক : যুক্তরাজ্যের বিভিন্ন শহরে মুসলিমবিদ্বেষী চিঠি ছড়িয়ে পড়েছে। একই ধরনের চিঠি দিয়ে প্রচারণা চলছে অনলাইনেও। চিঠিতে ৩ এপ্রিলকে ‘পানিশ এ মুসলিম ডে’ পালন করার আহ্বান জানানো হয়েছে। এ নিয়ে যুক্তরাজ্যজুড়ে মুসলিম কমিউনিটির মধ্যে আতঙ্ক সৃষ্টি হয়েছে। চিঠিকে হেইট ক্রাইমের অংশ বলে বিবেচনা করছে পুলিশ। এরইমধ্যে ঘটনার তদন্ত শুরু করেছে কাউন্টার টেরোরিজম ইউনিট। চ্যারিটি সংস্থা টেল মামা জানিয়েছে, লন্ডন, ব্রাডফোর্ড, লেস্টার, কার্ডিফ এবং শেফিল্ডে মুসলিম কমিউনিটির অনেকেই এই চিঠির ব্যাপারে তাদের কাছে রিপোর্ট েকরেছেন।
৩ এপ্রিলকে ‘পানিশ অ্যা মুসলিম ডে’ ঘোষণা করে বিদ্বেষপ্রসূত চিঠিটি ছাড়া হয়েছে। ইংল্যান্ডের লন্ডন, ইয়র্কশায়ার ও মিডল্যান্ড এলাকার বাসিন্দারা এ ধরনের চিঠি পাওয়ার কথা জানিয়েছেন। অনলাইনে একই ধরনের একটি চিঠি ছড়ানো হয়েছে এ-ফোর সাইজ কাগজের ছবিতে। ছড়িয়ে পড়া চিঠিতে মুসলিম সম্প্রদায়ের ওপর মৌখিক আক্রমণ, নারীর হিজাব খুলে ফেলা, শারীরিক আঘাত, মসজিদে হামলা ও অস্ত্র হিসেবে এসিড ব্যবহারের মাধ্যমে সহিংসতা ঘটানোর আহ্বান জানানো হয়েছে। পয়েন্ট দিয়ে এসব কর্মকাণ্ডের পর্যায়ক্রমিক তালিকা তৈরি করে চিঠিতে বলা হয়েছে, সহিংসতায় অংশ নিলে পুরস্কারের ব্যবস্থা থাকবে।
অনলাইনে ছড়িয়ে পড়া চিঠিতে পূর্ববর্তী বেশ কিছু মুসলিমবিরোধী বিদ্বেষমূলক কর্মকাণ্ডের বিবরণ হাজির করা হয়েছে। কেন এসব কর্মকাণ্ড সংঘটিত হয়েছে, তার ব্যাখ্যাও জুড়ে দেওয়া হয়েছে এতে।
দেশব্যাপী মুসলিমবিরোধী চিঠি ছড়িয়ে পড়ার বিষয়ে তদন্ত শুরু করেছে যুক্তরাজ্যের কাউন্টার টেরোরিজম কর্মকর্তারা। প্রেরিত চিঠিকে ‘বিদ্বেষের প্রতিনিধি’ বলে আখ্যা দিয়েছেন তারা। পশ্চিম ইয়র্কশায়ার পুলিশ বলছে, তাদের অনুরোধে যুক্তরাজ্যের উত্তর পূর্বাঞ্চলীয় কাউন্টার টেরোরিজম ইউনিট এই তদন্ত সমন্বয় করছে। পুলিশ বলছে, তাদের কাছে এ ধরনের বেশ কয়েকটি চিঠি রয়েছে। এগুলো বিশ্লেষণের মাধ্যমে উৎস জানার চেষ্টা চলছে। কাউন্টার টেরোরিজম পুলিশ এই চিঠিকে সম্ভাব্য ঘৃণাবাদী কর্মকাণ্ড বলে বিবেচনা করছে।
পশ্চিম ইয়র্কশায়ার পুলিশের অ্যাসিসট্যান্ট চিফ কনস্টেবল এঞ্জেলা উইলিয়াম বলেছেন, ‘পশ্চিম ইয়র্কশায়ারের বাস করা সম্প্রদায়ের মানুষদের আমি আশ্বস্ত করতে চাই, চিঠি পাঠানোর এই ঘটনা অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বসহকারে নেওয়া হয়েছে। আমরা বুঝতে পারছি তারা সম্ভবত উদ্বেগ তৈরি করে মানুষদের বিপর্যস্ত করে তুলতে চায়, বিশেষ করে যারা সমাজের স্পর্শকাতর অংশের সদস্য।’ তিনি বলেন, নাগরিক নিরাপত্তাকে আমরা অগ্রাধিকারে রেখেছি আর আমাদের সম্প্রদায়গুলোকে সজাগ হওয়ার আহ্বান জানাবো, তবে ভীত হতে নয়।
যুক্তরাজ্যে মুসলিমবিদ্বেষী কর্মকাণ্ড পর্যবেক্ষণ সংক্রান্ত একটি সংস্থা মেজারিং অ্যান্টি মুসলিম অ্যাটাক-এমএএমএ। সংস্থাটির দাবি, চিঠির খাম থেকে তারা নিশ্চিত হয়েছেন চিঠিগুলোর অন্তত একটি ইংল্যান্ডের দক্ষিণ ইয়র্কশায়ারের শেফিল্ড শহরের একটি চিঠি ও পার্সেল বিনিময়ের প্রতিষ্ঠান থেকে ছড়ানো হয়েছে। সংস্থাটির কর্মকর্তা ইমান আত্তা বলেন, স্থানীয় মানুষদের মনে চিঠিটি ব্যাপক ভীতি ছড়িয়েছে। ‘তারা আমাদের জিজ্ঞেস করছিল, আমরা কী নিরাপদ, ছেলেমেয়েদের বাইরে খেলতে দেওয়া কী নিরাপদ। আমরা তাদের শান্ত থাকতে বলেছি।‘ সংস্থাটি বলছে, ব্রাডফোর্ড, লেইসিসটার, লন্ডন, কার্ডিফ ও শেফিল্ডের মানুষদের ওই চিঠি পাওয়ার তথ্য পেয়েছেন তারা।
‘Punish a Muslim day’ letters probed by terror police
Letters encouraging recipients to take part in “Punish a Muslim Day” have reportedly been sent to addresses across the country.
Images of the A4 notes, which contain a list of violent acts alongside a number of points for performing them, have been widely shared online.
They have prompted a chorus of condemnation, with campaigners and MPs describing them as “disturbing”.
Counter-terrorism police are treating the letters as a possible hate crime.
‘Fear in the community’
Tell Mama UK, which monitors anti-Muslim activity, said it had received reports of people in Bradford, Leicester, London, Cardiff and Sheffield getting the letters.
Director Iman Atta said: “This has caused quite a lot of fear within the community.
“They are asking if they are safe, if their children are safe to play outdoors.
“We have told them to keep calm and to phone the police if they receive one of these letters.”
She said a number of the letters had been posted from Sheffield and bore a similarity to letters sent to mosques in the UK and US in May 2017, which were also posted from Sheffield.
“They are inciting violence against the Muslim community,” she said.
Labour MP Naz Shah said several of her constituents in Bradford had received the “hate mail” through their doors.
Ms Shah said the letters were an attempt to instil fear but one that would ultimately fail.
“We stand shoulder by shoulder, and stand side by side, because nothing will divide us,” she said.
“This is hatred and it just doesn’t work. You know, it’s what we do.”
She said she had spoken to police, and had been told detectives believed they were dealing with a “linked series of offences”.
Counter Terrorism Policing North East said it had received reports of “potentially malicious communications sent to individuals across the UK”.
A police spokesperson said: “Counter Terrorism Policing North East are co-ordinating the investigation at this time and will consider any potential links to existing inquiries.
“Anyone with any concerns about a communication they may have received should contact their local police force.”
West Yorkshire Police said it had received six reports while South Yorkshire Police said it had received three.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said it had received two reports of letters being sent to people, one in east London and the other in the SW4 area.
