ব্রিটবাংলা ডেস্ক : দক্ষিন-পূর্ব ইংল্যান্ডের কেন্ট কাউন্টি কাউন্সিলের তিনটি মসজিদে অজ্ঞাত ঠিকানা থেকে ইসলাম এবং মুসলিম বিদ্বেষী চিঠি প্রেরণ করা হয়েছে। এর মধ্যে দুটি চিঠিতে সন্দেহভাজন জীবননাশি পাউডার রয়েছে বলে দাবী করা হয়। সন্দেহভাজন চিঠি খোলার পর মসজিদের ঈমাম অসুস্থ্য হয়ে পড়েন বলে অভিযোগ করেছে ক্যান্টারবারী মসজিদ কর্তৃপক্ষ। এই অভিযোগের ফলে আপাতত মসজিদটি বন্ধ রেখে তদন্ত কাজ চালাচ্ছে পুলিশ। পাউডার যুক্ত চিঠি পেয়েছে মেডইস্টোন মসজিদও। তবে গ্রেইভসেন্ড মসজিদের চিঠিতে পাউডার নেই। তিনটি চিঠির বিষয়ে আলাদা আলাদা তদন্ত করছে স্থানীয় পুলিশ।
কেন্ট পুলিশ জানিয়েছে, বুধবার দুপুর সাড়ে ১২টার দিকে সন্দেহভাজন চিঠির বিষয়ে ক্যান্টারবারী মসজিদ থেকে পুলিশে রিপোর্ট করা হয়। পুলিশ মসজিদটি সাময়িক বন্ধ রেখেছে এবং চতুর্দিকে পুলিশের উপস্থিতি বাড়ানো হয়েছে। একই ধরনের পাউডার সংযুক্ত চিঠি পাঠানো হয়েছে মেইডস্টোন মসজিদেও। অন্যদিকে কেন্টের গ্রেইভসেন্ড মসজিদ কর্ত্পক্ষ আরেকটি চিঠি পেয়েছে বলে অভিযোগ করা হয়েছে। তবে তাতে পাউডার নেই।
এদিকে ক্যান্টারবারী মসজিদ থেকে অভিযোগ করে বলা হয়েছে, চিঠি খোলার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে ঈমাম ইহসান খান অসুস্থ্য হয়ে পরেন।
তার শরীরজুরে চুলকানী শুরু হয়ে যায়। যদিও পুলিশের পক্ষ থেকে কোনো হতাহতের খবর পাওয়া যায়নি। দুপুর ২টার দিকে ক্যান্টারবারী মুসলিম কমিউনিটি ইংল্যান্ডের ফেইসবুক পেইজে চিঠিটি ছাপানো হয়।
ক্যান্টারবারী মারকাজ মসজিদের পক্ষ থেকে মনে করা হচ্ছে ‘পানিশ এ মুসলিম ডে’ ক্যাম্পেইনের সঙ্গে এই চিঠির যুগসূত্র রয়েছে।
উল্লেখ্য গত ৩ এপ্রিল গ্রেটাল লন্ডনসহ ইউকের বিভিন্ন মসজিদে ‘পানিশ এ মুসলিম ডে’ পালনের নামে ইসলাম ও মুসলিম বিদ্বেষী চিঠি প্রেরণ করা হয়। বৃটিশ পার্লামেন্টের কয়েকজন মুসলিম এমপিও এ ধরনের চিঠি পান। অজ্ঞাত স্থান থেকে এসব চিঠি প্রেরণ করে বিভিন্নভাবে ইউকের মুসলিম কমিউনিটির মানুষকে হয়রানীর হুমকি দেওয়া হয়েছিল।

Three mosques in Kent have received suspicious letters, two of which contained a mysterious white powder.
A mosque in Canterbury has been sealed off after a ‘serious attempt to attack the Imam’ who opened a ‘letter of hate’ containing a substance.
The building has been surrounded by a huge police cordon this afternoon with both police and paramedics on the scene.
According to a member of the mosque, which is known as The Markaz, the Imam Ihsan Khan was injured during the incident although Kent Police say no injuries have been reported.
A similar report was received by police regarding a mosque in Maidstone. Officers are currently on the scene and no injuries are reported.
It is claimed the letters may have been sent in connection with the so-called ‘Punish a Muslim day’.
A member of the Canterbury mosque, who wished to remain anonymous, told Kent Live the Imam had been injured – although it is not believed he required hospital treatement.
They said: “He’s been injured. The imam is currently being attended to.
“We received in a letter of hate in connection with the April 3 Hate a Muslim day.
“He opened the letter, and there was a powder that came out which made him start scratching.”
The ‘Punish a Muslim Day’ phrase was coined after horrific letters were sent to homes and businesses earlier this year calling for muslims to be targeted on April 3.
Today’s incident was highlighted by Canterbury Muslim Community England which issued an urgent notice on its Facebook page at around 2pm.
It said: “Following a serious attempt to attack the masjid and in particular the Imam Ihsan Khan the masjid has been evacuated and closed for now with police cars and tapes on both ends of the route.
Officers are also investigating the delivery of an offensive letter to a mosque in Gravesend. No white powder was contained in the letter.
A spokesman for Kent Police said: “Kent Police received a report of a suspicious package in Giles Lane, Canterbury, at 12.23pm today.
