ব্রিটবাংলা ডেস্ক : ব্রেক্সিট ইস্যুকে কেন্দ্র করে দলের নর্দার্ন আয়ারল্যান্ড বিষয়ক শেডো সেক্রেটারীর পদ থেকে এমপি ওয়েন স্মীথকে বরখাস্ত করে দলের সিনিয়র নেতাদের সমালোচনার মুখে পড়েছেন লেবার লিডার জেরেমি করবিন।
২০১৬ সালের লেবার লিডারশীপ প্রতিযোগিতায় ওয়েন স্মীথ বর্তমান লিডার জেরেমি করবিনের প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বী ছিলেন। শুক্রবার ব্রেক্সিট ইস্যুতে দলীয় সিদ্ধান্তের সমালোচনা করে একটি মন্তব্য করায় তাকে শেডো নর্দার্ন আয়ারল্যান্ড সেক্রেটারীর পদ থেকে বরখাস্ত করেন লিডার জেরেমি করবিন। ব্রেক্সিট ইস্যুতে সরকারের নীতির প্রতি লেবারের দুর্বলতা বেশি বলে মন্তব্য করেছিলেন ওয়েন স্মীথ। তবে বরখাস্ত হলেও ব্রেক্সিট ইস্যুতে প্রয়োজনে নতুন করে আরো একটি রেফারেন্ডামের পক্ষে কথা বলেন যাবেন বলেও উল্লেখ করেন তিনি।
এদিকে ওয়েন স্মীথের বরখাস্তের সমালোচনা করেছেন লেবার লর্ড পিটার হেইন। অভিযুক্তকে সরিয়ে ফেলে বা বরখাস্ত করে এমপি ওয়েন স্মীথের উপর লেবার লিডার জেরেমি করবিন স্টালিনের নীতি প্রয়োগ করেছেন বলে মন্তব্য করেছেন তিনি।
অন্যদিকে শেডো হোম সেক্রেটারী ডায়ান এবোট অবশ্য জেরেমির পক্ষে কথা বলেছেন। শেডো কেবিনেটে থেকে দলীয় সিদ্ধান্তের সমালোচনার পক্ষে নন ডায়ান।
ওয়েন স্মীথকে সরিয়ে নতুন শেডো নর্দার্ন আয়ারল্যান্ড সেক্রেটারী হিসেবে শেডো হাউসিং মিনিস্টার টনি লয়েডসকে নিয়োগ দিয়েছেন লেবার লিডার জেরেমি করবিন।
Labour MPs attack sacking of Owen Smith over Brexit
Labour figures have criticised Jeremy Corbyn’s decision to sack his shadow Northern Ireland secretary for calling for another EU referendum.
Owen Smith said he would continue to speak up for what he called his “long-held views” on Brexit.
Labour peer Peter Hain described the dismissal as a “Stalinist purge”.
However shadow home secretary Diane Abbott said Mr Smith could not remain on the front bench while holding a position which was not Labour policy.
Mr Smith was asked to stand down by the Labour leader, after demanding a second vote after EU talks have ended.
He has been replaced by Rochdale MP and shadow housing minister Tony Lloyd.
In a tweet, Mr Smith said his concerns about Brexit, which he outlined in a Guardian article, were shared by other supporters and members of the Labour party.
