ব্রিটবাংলা ডেস্ক : লন্ডনের বিভিন্ন এলাকায় ছিনতাইয়ের অভিযোগে ১০ অভিযুক্তকে সর্বমোট ১শ ১০ বছর ১ মাসের জেলদন্ড দিয়েছে আদালত। পৃথক দুটি বিচার কাজ শেষে শুক্রবার লন্ডনের ব্ল্যাকফ্রায়ার্স ক্রাউন কোর্টে তাদের সাজার মেয়াদ ঘোষণা করা হয়। সংঘবদ্ধ এই চক্রটি ইস্ট এবং নর্থ লন্ডনে প্রায় ১৭টি ছিনতাইয়ের ঘটনা ঘটিয়েছে বলে আদালত জানিয়েছে। ২০১৬ সালের পহেলা মে থেকে একই বছরের ২৭শে নভেম্বর পর্যন্ত এই চক্রটি প্রায় এক মিলিয়ন পাউন্ডের মোবাইল ফোন এবং ট্যাবলেট ছিনতাই করেছে। একই সময় তারা অনেক দোকানপাট ভাংচুর করে। সাজাপ্রাপ্ত এই ১০ জনের মধ্যে অন্তত তিনজন বাঙালী রয়েছে বলে ধারণা করা হচ্ছে।
সাজাপ্রাপ্তরা হল, ২৩ বছর বয়সের কোর্টনি হোয়াইট, ২২ বছর বয়সের মমিনুর রহমান, ২৪ বছর বয়সের মোহাম্মদ হোসেইন, ২২ বছরের চাং মোবায়ালা, ২৪ বছরের মোহাম্মদ আলী, ১৯ বছরের ক্রিস কস্টি, ২২ বছরের ববি কেনেডি এবং ২১ বছরের আলফি কেনেডি, ২১ বছরের আতালাহ এবং ২০ বছর বয়সের ডাইলান ক্যাস্টানো লোপেজ। এরা সবাই আদালতে কেউ নিজে দোষ স্বীকার করেছে অথবা দোষি সাব্যস্ত হয়েছে।
নর্থ লন্ডনের উডগ্রীনের বাসিন্দা হোয়াইটের ২০ বছরের জেল হয়েছে। কেমডেনের বাসিন্দা মমিনুরের ১২ বছর ৬ মাস, হ্যাকনির বাসিন্দা হোসেইনের ১০ বছর, ইজলিংটনের বাসিন্দা মোবায়ালার ৮ বছর ৬ মাস, হ্যাকনির বাসিন্দা মোহাম্মদ আলীর ৭ বছর ১ মাস, হ্যাকনির বাসিন্দা কস্টির ৮ বছর ৬ মাস, ইজলিংটনের বাসিন্দা ববি কেনেডির ১১ বছর ৬ মাস, সর্ডিচের আলফি ক্যানেডির ১৩ বছর ১ মাস, আতাল্লার ১০ বছর ১০ মাস এবং চ্যাম্বারওয়েলের বাসিন্দা লোপেজের ১০ বছরের জেলদন্ড দিয়েছে আদালত।
Ten moped robbers jailed for total of 110 years
Ten moped robbers who armed themselves with hammers, knives and guns in £1.2 million worth of phone shop raids across London have been jailed for a total of 110 years.
Over seven months, the men broke their way into stores using portable angle grinders and fencing blocks used as makeshift battering rams, which were left as a calling card.
Wearing motorcycle helmets and dark clothing, they ransacked the stockrooms of 17 shops, sweeping high-end iPhone and Samsung handsets into tonne bags.
The raids were over in minutes and they made their getaway on mopeds and scooters, in the mistaken belief that discarding their helmets would halt any police chase.
All but one of the raids, which happened between May 1 and November 27 last year, were carried out on shops run by mobile phone company Three.
They cost the firm costing the firm an estimated £1.2 million in lost stock, damage, increased security and the closing of a branch targeted four times.
Courtney White, 23, Mominur Rahman, 22, Mohammed Hussain, 24, Chang Mabiala, 22, Mohammed Ali, 24, Chris Costi, 19, Bobby Kennedy, 22, Alfie Kennedy, 21, Adam Attalah, 21, and Dylan Castano Lopez, 20, were all either convicted of, or pleaded guilty to, conspiracy to commit burglary.
Judge Michael Simon jailed the gang for a total of 110 years and one month at Blackfriars Crown Court, describing them as “young in chronological age, but old in criminality”.
“The attacks were highly organised and meticulously planned,” he said.
“Nothing and no one was allowed to stand in the way of this gang’s intentions.”
White, from Wood Green, was jailed for 18 years, with a two-year extended licence period; Rahman, from Camden, was jailed for 12 and a half years; Hussain, 24, from Hackney, was jailed for 10 years; Mabiala, from Islington, was jailed for eight and a half years; Ali, from Hackney, was jailed for seven years and one month; Costi, from Hackney, was jailed for eight and a half years; Bobby Kennedy, from Islington, was jailed for 11 and a half years; Alfie Kennedy, from Shoreditch, was jailed for 13 years and one month; Attalah, of no fixed address, was jailed for 10 years and 10 months; and Lopez, from Camberwell, was jailed for 10 years and one month.
