ব্রিটবাংলা রিপোর্ট : দেশি বা লোকাল ড্রাইভাররা বেজায়গায় গাড়ি পার্ক করলেই তাদের হাতে পার্কিং টিকেট ধরিয়ে দেওয়া হয়। আর তা পরিশোধ না করে উপায় থাকে না। পার্কিং টিকেটের ভয়ে সেন্ট্রাল লন্ডনে গাড়ি নিয়ে প্রবেশ করেননি এমন লোকের সংখ্যা কম হবে না। স্থানীয়রা পার্কিং জরিমানার ভয়ে গাড়ি নিয়ে সেন্ট্রাল লন্ডনে প্রবেশ না করলেও বিদেশী ড্রাইভাররা দেদারছে পার্কিং জরিমানা পকেটে নিয়ে দামি দামি গাড়ি ধাবরিয়ে বেড়ায় সেন্ট্রাল লন্ডনে। মঙ্গলবার ওয়েস্ট মিনষ্টার সিটি কাউন্সিলেরে এক রিপোর্টে এমন তথ্য ফুটে উঠেছে। এ বারায় বিদেশী ড্রাইভারদের কাছে প্রায় মিলিয়ন পাউন্ড পার্কিং জরিমানা বাকি পরে আছে।
বিদেশী ড্রাইভারদের কাছে প্রায় ১ মিলিয়নের বেশি পার্কিং ফাইন বাকি পাওনা রয়েছে সেন্ট্রাল লন্ডনের ওয়েস্ট মিনষ্টার সিটি কাউন্সিলের। এই কাউন্সিলের পক্ষ থেকে মঙ্গলবার পার্কিং ফাইন পরিশোধ করেনি এমন টপ ১০টি দেশের নাম প্রকাশ করেছে। এর মধ্যে ফ্রান্স, কাতার, সংযুক্ত আরব আমিরাত এবং রোমানিয়ার ড্রাইভারদের কাছে অপরিশোধিত পার্কিং ফাইনের পরিমান সবচাইতে বেশি। ফ্রান্সের কাছে পার্কিং ফাইন বাবদ অপরিশোধিত রয়েছে ৩শ ৫৬ হাজার পাউন্ড। এছাড়া কাতারের কাছে ১শ ৯১ হাজার ১শ ৫ পাউন্ড এবংসংযুক্ত আরব আমিরাতের কাছে ১শ ১৬ হাজার ৩০ পাউন্ড।
এসব দেশের এম্বেসির মাধ্যমে পার্কিং ফাইন আদায়ের চেষ্টা করা েহচ্ছে বলে জানিয়েছে ওয়েস্ট মিনষ্টরা কাউন্সিল।
Foreign drivers have racked up more than £1million in unpaid parking fines in central London.
Motorists from France, Qatar, the UAE and Romania are the worst offenders, Westminster City Council said today.
The council has released its “top ten” countries for fines as it works with foreign embassies and organisations to force drivers to pay up.
France tops the table a total of £356,000 in parking fines. The majority of this figure remains unpaid.
Qatar and the UAE came in second and third place with £191,105 and £116,030 respectively. Their Middle Eastern neighbours Saudi Arabia and Kuwait also feature in the top ten, owing £64,065 and £55,530 respectively.
Switzerland, USA, Italy and Luxembourg have all featured in the table in recent years but have been usurped by Arab nations during 2016/17.
However, Romania climbed the table to fourth place, with its nationals owing £114,235 in fines.
The council has called on the government to establish an international system which allows local authorities to trace foreign motorists.
